npub1m0vcr0caxjdqex0pk5kpsqlt3emc2mcajvmlzdq0px3rm6v6wjzq8ldu9y (npub1m0v…du9y) it's eye opening to peer into all the things that even seemingly harmless viruses can do to us, but that study and resulting stories have been criticized for minimizing the severity of Long Covid by equating it with a "Long Cold" or other post-viral phenomenon.

It is indeed true that other viruses can also lead to extended or permanent disability. Even the most innocent seeming ones are later discovered to do some weird things to us. Epstein-Barr, thought to be mostly harmless has since been shown to be linked to Multiple Sclerosis. The list goes on.

So while it's true that we've been suffering the knock-on effects of many viruses this entire time without realizing it, one thing is different about Covid. Severe outcomes are so common that it hasn't taken decades to find the link and especially in combination with the ease of transmission and reinfection, it deserves special mention.
