But people have all sorts of different emotions and personalities, so the range of what we should call "normal" should be kinda broad. We shouldn't be pumping the overly excited and hyper athletic kid full of adderall because he would rather go kick a ball than do math. We shouldn't be pumping the math nerd full of caffeine because he would rather do math than go kick a ball.

Both of those kids are normal even if they suck at something.

I'm looking at pretty extreme ends here...and it's actually pretty common to bash your head or cut yourself as a teenager! You almost certainly knew a kid like this in high school, and after looking a little more closely I am inclined to believe that even *this* behavior is unnecessarily treated as if it's a cause for alarm.
