Chester Arthur had no vice president. This is believed to be because he refused to name anyone to the office, but opinion is mixed as to why. The popular opinion seems to be that Arthur wanted to name Zachary Taylor his veep but couldn't do so without Taylor admitting that he was still alive. My own theory is that Arthur found James K. Polk's time machine in the White House basement and tried to use it to become his own vice president, but couldn't find the keys.
