So long Instagram. Hello Pixelfed.
I wrote a long post on this topic that you probably would not have read anyway. You already know how sketchy Mark Zuckerberg and his Meta empire are. No?
So I deleted it.
And whilst on the topic of deletions Ill just seamlessly segue to this. Following recent events, I’m deleting my Instagram account1 and swapping to a far more ethical alternative.
It is free to use.
It is decentralized (ie it has no individual owner).
It has no advertising.
And it does not use algorithms to drive your feed.
It is called Pixelfed.
If this interests you, here is the good oil on how to set up your own account….
Download the Pixelfed app.
Or go to the website.
Create an account.You will need to chose an ‘instance’ (think of this as a community) to join. I use pixelfed.social. Don’t worry they all ‘talk’ to each other. And to other platforms in the fediverse.
Start posting, just like on instagram.PS I will also very shortly delete my Facebook account for the same reasons. ↩︎
