"Wild turkeys exist throughout Vt today, but that wasn't always the case. Wild turkeys disappeared from Vt in the mid-to-late 1800s due to habitat destruction.
The wild turkeys in Vt today came from just 31 turkeys stocked in SW Vt by the Vt Fish & Wildlife Dept in 1969-70."
