It's really complex but every time I hear "they will kill themselves without affirming care" I think, maybe if a person is suicidal, they shouldn't be doing a surgery and instead get urgent mental health care?
Absolutely not conversion therapy, but therapy for the suicidal thoughts, the anxiety under it.
The issue is tagging that anxiety as gender dysphoria and the treatment as gender affirming care necessarily - even though many, many persons health worsen from this.
