I feel that for sure! I feel like I have a relatively good handle on things here now. Thankfully I haven't had to delete people yet besides when that massive spam wave hit.
I follow Fediblock and keep things in check, but I haven't had any major issues besides the spam wave. Which made me REALLY despise Mastodon's leaders who absolutely refused to add moderation features, even in the face of 70% of the platform suffering.😬🤦♂️
