As an anecdote, a conference where I was speaking couldn't deal with this empty 'organization' field, so they manually added a government board where I advise a bit. I balked at this, so then they put in the name of a newspaper where I had recently published some pieces! Where I also don't work of course. And in another place I suddenly gained a new employer: Null. Which ended up on my badge.
