Having very much enjoyed Vernor Vinge's “Fire Upon the Deep” / "Deepness in the Sky,” and then "The Peace War" / "Marooned in Realtime,” I just finished reading "Rainbows End.” Meh. It had a lot of good ideas (especially around augmented reality), and I valued the perspective on aging and dementia, but I found the plot muddled and hard to follow. It had none of the Big Ideas that I loved about those other four books. It was fine, but it was not really for me.
