This weekend’s flurry of bird flu news is the kind of think that 10 years ago, would have left me feeing concerned but having seen our country’s response to COVID, now leaves me something more than concerned. I used to believe in our ability to deal with inevitable problems (like dangerous infectious diseases) but now I am a bit more skeptical about our ability to actually do anything useful.
