#BanksSuck In the unlikely case someone was following my problems and wants to know how it ended: Abanca called me today, and unblocked everything, maybe 15 minutes after I left another bank and created another bank account. It is just a coincidence. Mere 2 weeks without internet banking.
Thinking now about the "security" questions the asked prior to unblocking: I answered 2 of those 3 questions already at my first call - things like last 4 digits of my debit card and date of birth. But I had to wait 2 weeks to be even asked the third such question (place/city of birth). Apparently, my place of birth is so secret that even if an attacker takes over my phone number (say, by sim swap), finds out 4 last digits of my debit card and my date of birth, he'll never get my place of birth. So this is totally safe and not just a security theater. Never mind that both date and place of birth are shown on my ID card, so a lot of people have access to this. Including very probably my mobile phone service provider and its employees, who can also mount sim swap. Even better (for the attacker 😕) my place of birth is easy to guess by googling my name - it is not directly public, but you could google in which city I lived and make a guess I was also born there.
I could probably go on about how #KYCIsDangerous, but this KYC by phone carrier is a bit incidental. This is more case of stupidity being dangerous and annoying at the same time.

Still not resolved today, called today and just heard some promises: we'll look into it, we need to talk to our security team, we'll call you. And they told me that they didn't try to call me. A WEEK without any feedback from them.
It is great they are doing this PR for Bitcoin, but I don't need any convincing. Well, perhaps I do, I am still holding non-trivial amount of fiat in some investment fund managed by this bank. Not for much longer of course.
