According to Australian think tank ASPI, China leads the world in 37 out of 44 crucial technologies that they track. For some tech, EVERY ONE of the top 10 research instititutions are in China! USA comes second. Of these 44, no other country dominates.

USA is the global leader in: High-performance computing, advanced integrated circuit design and fabrication, natural language processing, quantum computing, vaccines and medical countermeasures, small satellites, and space launch systems.

China is the global leader in: Nanoscale materials and manufacturing, coatings, smart materials, advance composite materials, novel metamaterials, high-spec machining processes, advanced explosives and energetic materials, critical minerals extraction and processing, advanced magnets and superconductors, advanced protection, continuous flow chemical synthesis, additive manufacturing (incl 3D printing), advanced radiofrequency communications, advanced optical communications, A.I. algorithms and hardware accelerators, distributed ledgers, advanced data analytics, machine learning, protective cybersecurity technologies, hydrogen and ammonia for power, supercapacitors, electric batteries, photovoltaics, nuclear waste management and recycling, directed energy tech, biofuels, nuclear energy, post-quantum crypto, quantum communications (key dist), quantum sensors, synthetic biology, biological manufacturing, photonic sensors, advanced aircraft engines (hypersonics), drones and swarming robots, autonomous systems operation tech, advanced robotics.

China has a high ability to monopolize the following: nanoscale materials and manufacturing, coatings, advanced radiofrequency comms, hydrogen and ammonia for power, supercapactors, electric batteries, synthetic biology, photonic sensors. For the rest, other countries have at least a chance of catching up.
