The future of gossip: Gossip will always be free and MIT licensed. I have no plans to monetize this situation at all (I am doing okay in life already). I will not start building private paid-for extensions, nor will I set up any public relays that charge. And I will continue working on gossip in my free time for the forseeable future.

[For those who which to monetize their clients somehow, I am not saying that is wrong, for many people will have different situations and make different choices and I'm in a good position to do it this way.]

I started this project with full knowledge that if I wanted gossip to succeed, it's best chance was to be MIT licensed and fully open, and that I would not make money doing this (as it turned out, donations far exceed my expectations). And I wanted gossip to succeed for many reasons, the first and most selfish of which is that I wanted a nostr client for myself that I fully understood and had full control over. But I also take pride in doing my part to save the world from government tyranny and corporate walled garden tyranny.

The heavy lifting happened over Christmas break 2022, and ongoing work will probably never be as intense. But it doesn't need to be. It works pretty damn well as it is, and the spare time I dedicate to it should be enough to keep it viable and competitive on at least some grounds with other clients. And we have a handful of other developers helping out. If other clients supecede it on all fronts, bravo to them and I will quit. But I don't see that happening anytime soon. So I'm here to stay.

I love this community. Pura Vida! 🤙💜
