Browser: my impression of Librewolf is pretty solid. It's been steadily growing its user base over the last few years, so I'd hope it will become a longterm fork instead of going down the road of decline like quite a few others, like Waterfox.
Here are my recommendations. All well suited for old slow machines with HDD.
XnViewMP as an image browser/viewer. (Really performant and feature rich, as were popular tools like Irfanview/ACDsee back in the days.)
Shotwell as photo library.
mpv as video player. (there's a plugin to allow instant thumbnail view according to position of cursor on seek bar, very handy)
Okular as PDF viewer/annotator
Recoll as desktop search engine
Syncthing as sync tool for smartphone
Gossip as Nostr client ;-)
Graphical Disk Map to look for disk space wasters (feels much faster than the alternatives to me)
Plank as applications dock, similar to this thing on macOS
ksnip as screenshot tool
Kupfer as launcher to quickly access files/applications by typing a few characters (plugins: applications, deep directories depth 2), to replace mac finder
PDFArranger to mess with PDFs
Gajim as Jabber/XMPP client
Meld as GUI diff tool
