Brief summary of the recent news about Slovakia (as far as I can gather). The news doesn't always tell it straight, so here is the simple story:
1. Ukraine (Zelenskyy) asked Slovakia (Fico) to back their entry into NATO. Slovakia said they won't do it, it's not a good idea.
2. (rumor, not reported) Ukraine offered Slovakia $500 million to back their entry into NATO. Slovakia still declined, said it would be WW3.
3. (because the carrot didn't work, they try the stick) Ukraine told Slovakia they will no longer allow gas to transit from Russia to Slovakia through Ukraine starting in 2025.
4. Fico travels to Moscow to ask Putin how they can continue to purchase and receive the cheap energy they need given the new constraint.
Zelenskyy makes it a moral issue: Ukraine is fighting for their lives, Slovakia is fighting over money (being unwilling to buy expensive gas from other suppliers).
