What a shite title. While it's funny AF, it's entirely incorrect or at least has nothing to do with the actual arrest. The following is at the very bottom of the article:

He went to an AT&T store with a fake ID card with his picture and the name of the owner of the phone number and actually got the sim swapped to his own phone. Then after the attack, he actually returned the phone to the store 😂
My guess is that they just traced the IMEI number, figured out where it was sold and then went and got it to extract whatever was on the harddrive.
