I think Trump's impunity argument is that the impeachment process is integral to the prosecution of a president. Without impeachment, you can't prosecute.
But back during impeachment, his defense said the there was no need to impeach, as civilian justice would handle the task.
If his team is right today, and impeachment is part of the criminal proceeding, then this very argument is estopped, right? I should be working but I am stuck on this paradox
