We have WW2 ptsd in Europe,
In UK we have hate speach laws, and i get logic of extending to online realm.
If I stood in the street and starting inciting violence, inciting attacking property, police would stop me, our online lives has largely been overlooked and same rules have not applied, which is why more recently people were shocked police knocked at their doors over Facebook posts.
Its a funny one, something I have no idea how to reconcile, and what my own opinion actually is, I'm pro free speach, but also don't believe the mantra "they're only words". Words can/have incited genocide. Hate speach laws would have likely dampened rise of Hitler. Post WW2 Oswald Mosley, our own potential Hitler, had his right to free speach attacked, and it stopped the rise of fascism in UK. In that context being pro limiting free speach isn't irrational. The issue is always whoever decides what constitutes hate speach, so I also get just opening speach up. The subject certainly fills me with conflicting ideology.
