I’ve finally worked out why Microsoft’s communication on Recall has been so strange and counterfactual. As an organization, they’ve become so cloudpilled that “it is stored locally (not in the cloud)” and “it cannot be accessed remotely” sound like the same statement to them, and they don’t see how “it’s just an sqlite file in a folder” is relevant. Meanwhile, scammers have been calling home and small business users and requesting remote login access to exfiltrate files in folders for 20 years
