"Linux is hard!" They say, as this month I sent back a middle age man who self proclaims himself as tech illiterate with a Kubuntu install, Firefox, Chromium, and Chinese Pinyin input.
I did the install on his old laptop he doesn't want to toss out, thus preventing more e-waste for someone who genuinely takes care of their stuff so it lasts.
He has only called me back to remind him what shortcut it was to switch input methods.
Linux isn't hard. If you want to help someone transition successfully, the only thing you need to have is to address people's needs. And most people just want to surf the web and watch videos.
Get that elitist bone that sneers at Ubuntu users for not using Debian out of your system, and learn to show people how to run updates and installs from the GUI.
Be friendly and patient when they ask questions instead of being dismissive and telling them to search it up themselves.
More likely that not, until users reach critical mass, you are going to be the Linux person in your community, so don't go recommending Linux if you aren't prepared to do the work. People are going to go back into the waiting arms of megacorps with their information absorbing OSes if all you are gonna do is recommending things.
