Lesson three - the characters need a reason to care. The module didn't have that, and even though my players are excellent and will jump through any hooks they're given, there weren't stakes beyond the survival of the characters who they didn't really have time to get to know.
I'm looking forward to running a lot more of it in future, with some more careful prep, and doing the work myself of homebrewing an adventure.
