When they taught me about synesthesia in graduate school, they made it sound cool and artsy, like "You see math equations as a beautiful tapestry" and "certain images sound like music to you" so I didn't realize I had it but I have the annoying synesthesia where certain sounds feel like someone is clawing at my face, and sometimes compliments make my teeth hurt.
