Back in the 80s, Larry Niven and other L.A.-based SF writers went on and on about their "electric pencil files" which they used with their daisywheel printers on their CPM machines. They got great copy but god help them if they every have to dig up the old stuff from the garage.

I've stopped talking to authors about their process. Whatever they want to talk about on Con panel is fine but it's seems like a personal question like "Boxers or briefs?"

Of course the techie version that question is "vi or emacs?"
