so this has been the law in Australia for a while. And there was a big kerfuffle a couple of years ago when someone got busted having a duel citizenship without realising it because their parents were born somewhere where citizenship is automatically given to their children. Turns out there were dozens of politicians that had to frantically renounce citizenship to countries they had never been to and had no idea they were citizens of.
