I'm just finding my way around Nostr for the first time today. Just learned about it today from chatgpt. Have a year or two of experience with X and Bluesky.
Nostr is too confusing and hard to get going. I suspect that's the main thing holding it back.
Censorship on X and Bluesky is bad if you rub the wrong people the wrong way. X seems to have embedded censors. Both X and Bluesky have external folks that censor by gaming their rules. They can censor and sometimes get accounts permanently banned through group and repeated reporting. Nostr seems like it may be a win in that regard.
It would be nice if there was a Nostr app that looked more like X/Bluesky, especially with simplified signup. That's likely the main holdup to wider usage.
Someone hears about it, they can go try it on a whim and be going in short order. Nostr is way too complex and messy. Unnecessarily.
More hand-holding is necessary. Then a bit more advertising is probably all that's necessary to eclipse Bluesky.
Like I said, I'm just starting with Nostr. I'm probably missing something. But it's not my fault. :-) (I'm a retired system's analyst/programmer, BTW.)
