We watched a YouTube video on using an abacus together last summer (with 6 and 8). They now love playing a game where one writes down a series of addition and subtraction questions and the other solves it. They are getting into 3 and 4 digits.
I'm now convinced that all classrooms should start with abacuses. It makes math so visual. The carrying the one or borrowing the one is way more obvious. I wish I learnt to use one properly.
