There is a legitimate and interesting debate to be had around independent government agencies.
In the U.S., Trump has now declared them to fully under the control of the executive branch (i.e. him), while in Mexico, much has been said about the proposed reforms to the independent Instituto Nacional Electoral (National Electoral Institute) proposed by former president AMLO.
Maybe a better way would be to codify the independence of such agencies in the constitutions, creating new, limited branches of government that are truly independent.
