Of course, I should have included that I've barely seen any new movies since 2011.
"Brazil" was made in England (and Paris!) by Canadian director Terry Gilliam (of Monty Python fame) with a selection of US based stars (Katherine Helmond, Robert deNiro) but mainly a British cast (Jonathan Pryce, Peter Vaughan). Universal Studios wasn't pleased with what Gilliam produced.
The practical effects, miniatures, artistic design (the sets and costumes) and choreography (dance, fight) make it a great for me.
The clips I've watched of recent movies with fantasy elements mostly have me groaning in pain due to the cgi (which can do anything and be highly detailed but doesn't mean it looks good).
I always preferred ingenious indie productions first, then Artsy and then auteurs. But, I also see where ideas have been taken or given an homage ("stealing").
The adverts and clips for Monkey Man have left me ambivalent but I'd trust a RustyBertrand™ recommendation over other's opinions.
