Finally found some time to prep this garden bed in the food forest to plant some squash.

Put a layer of composted horse manure (turned by our chickens), raked it out even, then broad forked it in.

How many permaculture principles are utilized by planting annuals in between the rows of perennials planted on contour with swales?

Last year I grew garlic for the first time in our food forest. We plant "substance" crops in the rows between the fruit trees and perennials. This is the first season replanting from home grown garlic. So far it's looking good. Hopefully I can stay on top of weeding it and have an even larger harvest than the first. Still eating fresh garlic but it's starting to sprout in the cellar. Maybe I can make some garlic powder with my S9 powered dehydrator before it's too far gone. #permies #permaculture #homesteading #garlic #gardening #foodforest
