This is a cleaned up version response I did to a note by SatSniper who you should totally follow

He was talking about the value of 200 followers vs many more on say twitter. It was a great post and prompted something I have been thinking about a lot since getting on Nostr. So with that....
Nostr and its Growing Network Effect by Jack Spirko
A larger network = A larger network effect.
The Nostr network is a network of networks. If you and I are connected, the larger our individual networks the more our one interactive edge does for both of us.
No need for a million or a hundred thousand followers but this is what I see coming from nostr.
Average users having networks of 200-1500 followers. Influencers having in time say an average of 5-50K and there is always going to be big guys like say Jack Dorsey with millions.
Contrast it to Twitter or Facebook, TikTok, etc., where the average user has less than 20 followers most who never see anything they post. Then a shit ton of mega accounts who control the entire dialog driving almost all discussion in a few various niches.
Influencers like myself may have 20K or more but 85% of our people don't see what we post. I have had people tell me they have followed me for years and almost never see anything I tweet unless they directly look up my profile.
The network effect on twitter is driven still by the mega accounts and algo controls. Elon did at least lift a lot of shadow bans but the algo still interferes with reach.
I would much rather be connected to a few thousand people who I actually see and who actually see me. I'd rather each of them on average have say 200ish followers then personally have 200,000 followers who all have an average follower count of say 5. Why? Because I am as much concerned about giving back as to what I personally can get.
So this is not so I can get more reach it is so that my network is more powerful in both directions. I will learn more from a direct network with 3000 people that is 600K deep at the second level then from one with 200K direct connections.
The total is almost the same if you do the math. But if I have 3000 people each curating the data from their own 200 people for me vs. being overwhelmed by every fuckin post from 200K direct followers, the value of the information I see is so much higher.
Like 1000x higher.
This is what Nostr promises and no one can get in the fucking way. As I say, "one key pair and your tribe is everywhere". This is why I started the #grownostr initiative. So everyone can build a strong network and so those networks might interconnect.
In some ways it is the Federation Model of Mastodon without all the control, censorship and bullshit. It is fully organic and fully always under individual control.
It is way early, we are just getting started but it is a natural force vs. a contrived force. And natural forces as we all know are absolutely unstoppable.
