This reminds me of the sage advice I heard on the internet once, that people can grow to like each other if they're stuck with each other.
I think it was an anon Tradcath woman, middle-aged nurse, back on twitter, who said that she and her husband weren't super "in lurve" with each other, but loved each other enough and got along so well they got hitched, and now she can't imagine going on living if she lost him.
