after some discussion with npub1exk5aw3edm004skcy0j72hgkhva4s6sy93hxrpqujh4dul02zlmq4vx7we (npub1exk…x7we) and thanks to some swift work by npub1zrnrzejlgrwdl0rds8xtu88tlz7qw277ynwsahxkc3vls2yhxkvq2ltxe5 (npub1zrn…txe5) to patch systemd, we've temporarily switched the #postmarketOS systemd staging branch to use split /usr. The package manager hacks we've been relying on for the /usr merge have proven to be pretty unstable , and since Alpine is now adopting the /usr merge it doesn't make much sense to sink more time into that approach.
the /usr is still a blocker for us to merge systemd into pmOS edge, but this should at least make testing things less of a headache.
also note that this doesn't mean we'll support upgrading from split /usr to merged /usr!
