Interesting chapter in my BTC story:
I'd owned some, a little, before 2023. I got engaged in the fall. My new fiance worked for a company who had a vendor sponsored all inclusive luxury Caribbean trip each year to which they invited her for the first time. And her coworker. They had one plus-one that they gave to the coworker. The coworker who had been on a few these trips, as well as this coworker's friend.
I was intimately familiar with her company. I went to the xmas parties. I would stop in and eat lunch with them.
There truly was no reason they didn't give the plus one to my fiance so we could enjoy a beautiful, expensive, luxurious vacation.
So my fiance went, wishing I could be there, but whatever.
It was beginning of January. Cold, no sun for me. FOMO. Missing her. I have plenty of friends, but we happen to get the biggest snowstorm of the year that weekend. I had cabin fever. I even told her I was depressed and lonely...not like me at all, but given the circumstances, it sucked.
I spent that weekend plowing walking trails through two feet of snow in the back woods so dog had places to explore. Literally, forging paths through the snow in the woods.
And...reading the Blocksize Wars. With no distractions and nothing else to do, I flew devoured it.
Then the Genesis Block. No your conventional first books on bitcoin, but they did the trick.
I became obsessed. I put everything into it.
I'm still upset about how dumb my wife's company is for not giving her the plus one.
But I'm not sure I would be where I am today without that snowy, cold, lonely weekend learning about the greatest economic discovery of all time.
