I wouldn’t dare say you’re wrong, but I do think there are other aspects as well.
As I watch sci-fi-inspired nerd billionaires do deeply fucked-up stuff at scale, it’s harder and harder for me to look past the ways the SF genre reproduces a sexist, racist settler-colonial mindset.
I see Afro-Futurism as a way of decolonizing sci-fi; of saying, the future need not be as Eurocentric as the present.
I see a lot of liberatory potential in the tools that SF offers. I think it’s extremely cool to claim those tools for projects of feminism, post-colonialism, etc
