To be clear, I'm absolutely sure someone out there has instructions on making one out of a Raspberry Pi, and Arduino, and the chopped up bits of an old electric kettle or something. I'm not that level of skill. But something where someone was like, "okay, you buy this old model that's still abundant, hold down these three buttons to reset, then flash with this bbox rom, and run this little app server I wrote" might be manageable.
