sadly, the bet turned out to be wrong, certainly in the time period of a decade or so.
the main reason for CALF's priominence was that they had very nice GUIs, which was quite unique and refreshing.
but plugins need a lot more than that, and for a long (and in some cases right down to today), CALF was missing quite a lot of what was needed.
