There were never any cool bits. Cyberpunk depicts adoption of technology as necessary to survive, not as a means of self-fulfillment, self-improvement, or of improvement of the human condition. In cyberpunk, technology is just the latest battlefield: the latest conditions requiring adaptation for survival. At it's core is not technology, but the extrapolation of the laissez-faire capitalism of the 1980s with increased technological efficiency and ruthlessness.
