Pretty much as the person above says. In social media there is zero need for anyone to handle every message in the system.
Nor is there a limit to number of messages or number of users. All that need to happen in social media is that a single user need to authenticate their own messages (few thousand) to their own followers (few hundred).
Social media doesn’t need a global ledger like a currency does to prevent counterfeiting.
Social media needs 1 ledger for each users timeline. When you log in, you need to authenticate the timeline of everyone you follow. You can do this with a simple key pair rather than using a blockchain.
