Quimps are Queer Imposters who are colonising, hijacking, contaminating and, in the process, destroying, the LGB movement. There are different types of Quimp. From male or female celebrities who come out as non-binary or gender fluid or bisexual (they’re not) just to make themselves seem cool or subversive or edgy, or so they can peddle the victim narrative that they’re somehow oppressed; a victim of the patriarchy just like the gays. Think Demi Lovato. These Quimps tend to be heterosexual, and sooner or later, will be married with kids like most other heterosexuals out there.
Why am I so bothered about this? Well, it’s not because these imposters are riding on the backs of many gays who struggled and fought hard for the rights we now enjoy. Nor is it that it contributes to gay erasure. Afterall, if we allow anyone to be queer or gay then these words become meaningless. Nor is it that they’re getting undeserved attention based on their colonisation of our ‘identity’ when true gays, queers are struggling to be noticed. Nor is it that they’re making ‘queer’ seem mediocre and safe. It’s because of the sheer display of attention-seeking narcissism and dishonesty, and the fact that they treat us all like fools. I don’t care that much that labels like gay and queer will soon disappear – this was inevitable from the moment we started fighting for visibility and the rights to be treated equally in society. Also, I don’t care that much that ‘queer’ will soon mean conformity and mediocrity because all great art and radical movements such as punk eventually become mediocre when the mainstream or capitalism jumps onboard. It’s just the way of the world. No, none of this bothers me. What does bother me are lies and hypocrisy. These things are always contemptible.
