Interesting read. I have the same feeling. What's good with Mastodon is that I'm able to find new content without constantly getting into fights. It does not make me angry in the same way that X, Bluesky or Lemmy/Reddit does. On the other hand, there are almost no interactions. It's more like RSS than Twitter (for better or worse). You scream into the void.
