Most people will never care about decentralization. They just want to chat with their friends.
This will become more and more true as Mastodon gains popularity.
So it’s better to force people into making a choice at the outset. Yes, it’s annoying and causes friction. Many people find making a any decision whatsoever to be“difficult”.
