My view is that anyone has the right to run a relay with any policy whatsoever, without purposefully harming or deceiving others.
It is also that, however, neutral free speech relays, usable by anyone at no charge, optionally with a spam filter, and one with few false positives, are the kind which best contribute to the mission of furthering freedom of speech.
You don't owe anyone anything by default, but there are things you can do, if you want to (and many do want to) which will make the world a better place. Contributing to the cause of freedom of speech is one such thing and running a free speech relay is one way of doing so.
It is an altruistic act. It's not the only altruistic thing you can do, but it is a valuable one.
