this was in German Popular Mechanics in the 90ies with artificial DNA. You infect a place and later you only need to spray a UV-glowing primer around and to who was there. There is almost no defense against this. Except hypercleanliness maybe.
They wrote they can shine a specific UV-Frequency at airports and use a "water mist cooler" to spray the primer on passengers and special cameras can detect the UV-glow. Spooky.
