I think the Picker is doing the “right” thing in that it is sizing to fit the selected content. (I actually recall this being a pain to implement for inline style controls with AppKit) If you want a fixed positioning for your fields and a fixed width for your units then I think an alignment guide at the split point may be the way to go. (And, I agree this would be a better user experience for people accustomed to the mouse and macOS)
