Astronomers using JWST have found a pair of massive galaxies merging when the Universe was only 510 million years old. This object is enormous, ten times more massive than any other galaxy found that early in the Universe and seen earlier than any other merger so far. The images from Webb show two components, a massive galaxy, and a long tidal tail, indicating the merger in process. The galactic light shines with new star formation thanks to the merger.
