Episodes of harmful algal bloom [HAB] are happening more often off the California coast and in more places than ever before. The cause? Warming ocean temperatures caused by climate change and chemical-laden runoff from cities and agriculture, made much worse by the current El Niño.

The current HAB event off California is sickening and killing sea lions and other marine animals at an unprecedented rate.
