It would probably be a well spoken language to be sure, primarily due to maritime trade, after all the UK is an island nation and had a growing maritime fleet before the beginning of Empire.
This may well have resulted in a nation that would be less monolingual and the rise of Hindi or Mandarin as the global Lingua Franca.
