Chris Trottier on Nostr: ["MANOS" - The Hands of ...
["MANOS" - The Hands of Fate](https://www.mobygames.com/game/65839/manos-the-hands-of-fate/)* has a video game adaption.
Many people believe this is the worst film of all time. Thus, they're shocked that anyone would bother making a video game based on this terrible movie.
But what if I told you the video game is actually really good? I'm not joking, it's actually great. It's an 8-bit style game reminiscent of [Castlevania](https://www.mobygames.com/game/2062/castlevania/), and it's an absolute blast.
A better question would be: why would anyone make a good video game based on Manos?
The developer happens to be FreakZone Games, the same folks who made [The Angry Video Game Nerd: Then Angry Video Game](https://www.mobygames.com/game/97069/the-angry-video-game-nerd-the-angry-video-game/) and its [sequel](https://www.mobygames.com/game/87495/the-angry-video-game-nerd-ii-assimilation/). And if you know anything about AVGN, it's that he loves talking about bad video games. So it's not surprising that these folks would dip their toes into bad movies as well.
This developer has made a number of other great retro-themed games such as [Knight Terrors](https://www.mobygames.com/game/97484/knight-terrors/) and [Spectacular Sparky](https://www.mobygames.com/game/174016/spectacular-sparky/).
But why do I personally love "MANOS"? Because if I played this during the 80s, I would have been absolutely over the moon. The controls are well-tuned, the graphics are fun, and the chiptune music is really memorable.
It also doesn't hurt that the video games somehow makes the story of "MANOS" somewhat interesting -- which, if you have seen the movie, is quite an accomplishment. I think most people would rather watch "MANOS" cutscenes than watch through that stinker of a movie.
Because "MANOS" is only C$3.39, I recommend this game without any reservation. It's a lot of fun on the cheap.
