I've evolved a personal vocabulary for talking to people who dislike #gay or #trans people but take words like "homophobic" and "bigoted" as personal attacks. The kind of people who have never heard the word "transphobia" and roll their eyes hard enough to pull a muscle before I can finish uttering all the letters in LGBTQ+.
So what I do instead is talk about #discrimination against gender nonconformists and sexual minorities.
Haven't changed any minds yet, but might have opened some eyes.
