People who think that Putin after years of war and dreadful lossses is willing to let Ukraine exist or agree on a permanent cease-fire, keeping it as a strong and independent power on it's border, are deluding themselves.
Putin has many good and from his perspective rational reasons that Ukraine must be destroyed. Any cease-fire will only be a pause in the conflict. Real change can come when there is a regime change in Russia.
